Personal loan on a ₹30,000 salary: how much can you get?

Short answer: with a ₹30,000 take-home salary and no other EMIs, a lender that allows half your pay for EMIs would leave ₹15,000 a month free, enough for a loan of about ₹6.8 lakh over 5 years at 11.60% a year. Existing EMIs cut this fast: with ₹5,000 of EMIs it is about ₹4.5 lakh. Several large lenders publish ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 as their minimum salary, so ₹30,000 usually clears the first bar.

How much loan does a ₹30,000 salary support?

Lenders cap the share of your take-home pay that can go to all EMIs together. This is called FOIR, the fixed obligation to income ratio. Each lender sets its own cap, so the table shows two common illustrations, 40% and 50%.

Illustration only: rate 11.60% a year (ICICI Bank's published mean for July to September 2026) and a 5-year tenure. Each row is the EMI room left after your existing EMIs, and the loan that EMI repays.

Your existing EMIsLender allows 50% (₹15,000)Lender allows 40% (₹12,000)
None₹15,000 room / about ₹6.8 lakh₹12,000 room / about ₹5.4 lakh
₹5,000 a month₹10,000 room / about ₹4.5 lakh₹7,000 room / about ₹3.2 lakh
₹10,000 a month₹5,000 room / about ₹2.3 lakh₹2,000 room / about ₹0.9 lakh

How the arithmetic works: at 11.60% over 5 years, each ₹1 lakh borrowed costs about ₹2,204 a month. ₹15,000 of EMI room divided by ₹2,204 is about 6.8, so about ₹6.8 lakh. Over 3 years each ₹1 lakh costs about ₹3,302 a month, so the same ₹15,000 supports only about ₹4.5 lakh. A higher rate also lowers the amount: at 16.50%, the top of ICICI Bank's published range, ₹15,000 over 5 years supports about ₹6.1 lakh.

Lenders also apply their own maximum amounts and may offer less than this arithmetic allows, especially to a first-time borrower or a new joiner. Test your own numbers on the EMI calculator.

Is ₹30,000 salary enough for a personal loan?

For many lenders, yes. Published minimums from three lenders, checked 29 October 2026: HDFC Bank ₹25,000 a month (Xpress Personal Loan), ICICI Bank ₹30,000 a month for salaried applicants, Poonawalla Fincorp ₹30,000 or more.

LenderPublished minimum salaryOther published terms
HDFC Bank₹25,000 net a month (Xpress Personal Loan)Rates starting from 9.99% p.a.
ICICI Bank₹30,000 a month (salaried)9.99% to 16.50% p.a.; ₹50,000 to ₹50 lakh; 12 to 84 months; age up to 58
Poonawalla Fincorp₹30,000 or more a month

Meeting the minimum is the first check, not an approval. Lenders also look at:

  • Take-home, not gross. Lenders read the salary credited to your bank account. If ₹30,000 is your gross pay, your take-home after PF and tax is lower, and so is your loan.
  • Credit report. TransUnion CIBIL says a score above 700 is generally considered good. Recent missed EMIs weigh more than an old one.
  • Employer and job tenure. ICICI Bank, for example, lists 2 years of work experience.
  • Existing EMIs, as the table above shows.

Score below 700 or a missed EMI in the last few months? Read what lenders check with a low CIBIL score before applying, because each rejected application adds an enquiry to your report.

What will the EMI be on a ₹3 lakh loan?

₹3 lakh at 11.60% over 3 years: EMI about ₹9,907 a month, total interest about ₹56,655. That EMI takes one third of a ₹30,000 salary.

₹3 lakh over 3 yearsAt 11.60% p.a.At 16.50% p.a.

Total interestabout ₹56,655about ₹82,367
Processing fee at 2% plus 18% GST₹7,080₹7,080

The rate you are offered matters as much as the amount: on the same ₹3 lakh, the gap between 11.60% and 16.50% is about ₹25,700 of interest. Before you sign, RBI requires the lender to give you a Key Facts Statement with the annual percentage rate, which adds the fees to the interest. Compare that figure across offers.

Already paying EMIs on a ₹30,000 salary?

If your EMIs already take ₹10,000 or more of a ₹30,000 salary, a new loan on top may be declined, and if approved it can leave too little for rent and food. Two better first steps:

Merge your EMIs into one
One loan at a lower rate or longer tenure can cut the monthly outgo. Worked example on the page.
Debt consolidation loan
Clears card dues and app loans, which usually cost the most.
Avoid small high-cost app loans to cover a shortfall. Borrow only from banks, RBI-registered NBFCs or apps that show the name of the regulated lender making the loan. Under RBI's Digital Lending Directions, 2025, the loan must be paid into your own bank account.

Frequently asked questions

How much personal loan can I get on a ₹30,000 salary?

It depends mostly on your existing EMIs. As an illustration, if a lender lets 50% of your take-home pay go to EMIs and you have no other loans, ₹15,000 a month is free for an EMI, which supports about ₹6.8 lakh over 5 years at 11.60% a year. With ₹5,000 of existing EMIs it falls to about ₹4.5 lakh. Each lender sets its own limit, rate and tenure.

Is ₹30,000 salary enough for a personal loan?

For many lenders, yes. ICICI Bank lists a minimum monthly income of ₹30,000 for salaried applicants, Poonawalla Fincorp says ₹30,000 or more, and HDFC Bank says ₹25,000 for its Xpress Personal Loan. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee approval: credit history, employer, job tenure and existing EMIs also count.

What will the EMI be on a ₹3 lakh loan with a ₹30,000 salary?

At 11.60% a year over 3 years the EMI is about ₹9,907, and total interest is about ₹56,655. At 16.50%, the top of ICICI Bank's published range, total interest rises to about ₹82,367. An EMI near ₹10,000 uses one third of a ₹30,000 salary.

Is ₹30,000 gross or take-home salary?

Lenders look at net take-home pay credited to your bank account, which is why they ask for salary slips and bank statements. If ₹30,000 is your gross salary, your take-home is lower after PF and tax, and the loan you can get is smaller.

I have ₹30,000 salary and several EMIs. Can I still get a loan?

A new loan on top becomes hard once your EMIs take up most of the share a lender allows. With ₹10,000 or more of EMIs on a ₹30,000 salary, merging the existing loans into one EMI is often a better first step than adding another loan.

Is AdvanceCred a lender?

No. AdvanceCred is a Mumbai-based credit advisory and loan intermediation firm. It compares options from partner banks and NBFCs and helps process the application. The lender alone decides approval, amount, rate and tenure.
